However ,Saudi Aramco has not examined this issue from an accounting point of view . Therefore it is proposed as a student project , to study the issue and prepare a white paper to present the results . If necessary , an Accounting Instruction could be prepared Based on the conclusions of the white paper . The research paper should address , among other items , the following : 1- What does IFRS require regarding the accounting for decommissioning costs? 2- What sort of decommissioning costs ( be asset type ) does Saudi Aramco incur today or may incur in the future ? 3- How are these costs funded and accounted for today? 4- Are there any company policies or statements related decommissioning of assets? 5- How do other public companies such as Shell, Exxon and Chevron treat decommissioning costs? 6- Conclusion : Is there an accounting issue for Saudi Aramco and , if so , how do we propose to resolve it? The solution should encompass the budgeting Issues along with the financial accounting issues. وشكـــــــــــرا لكم

You are asked to discuss, professionally, the main differences between the two firms in the structure of their I.S. and B.S. In choosing the two firms involved, you are can select one of the following options: 1. One manufacturing firm (e.g. Mercedes Bens) and another merchandising firm (e.g. GAP). 2. One international manufacturing firm and another local/regional manufacturing firm operating in the same industry type. The length of discussion, excluding the financial statements, should not exceed 3000 words. Submission deadline: 15th October 2008 Assessment of group project 1. Each group member gets the same mark if all the group members participate equally, but if the group reports a malingerer, he or she gets a yellow card and his/her mark is reduced by 10%. If there is no improvement, the student (malingerer) will get a red card which means a zero mark. 2. The department has zero tolerance towards plagiarism. Always refer to your source of information in citation. Also, If a group’s report is taken from another group’s report, both groups members will be awarded ZERO. Assessment criteria are presented in the following marking sheet. You must print it off, after completing students’ names and ID nos., and attach it as a cover sheet to your report.
