"Accounting information plays a vital role in determining the most appropriate strategic direction for the organization. It guides managerial actions, motivates behaviors, and supports and creates the cultural values necessary to achieve an organization's strategic objectives. In particular, cost management information (both financial and nonfinancial information) is a critical type of information to the success of the company. For this reason the role of cost accounting and management has expanded. Accountants are now participants on multifunctional management teams."

Instructions:

1- Write a Memo to your Instructor that explains and illustrates (Hint: some research is required here):

a- How financial, cost, and managerial accounting interface. Is one more important than another? Discuss the rationale for your answer.

b- Is cost accounting a subset of management accounting or is management accounting a subset of cost accounting? Why?

c- Why effective cost accounting is critical to business success.
